The Government should focus on creating ‘digital town hubs’ as part of a new National Broadband Plan (NBP).

That was the view expressed by the Chief Executive Officer of IE Domain Registry, David Curtin, when he spoke at the Internet Day celebration in Gorey.

The town is this year’s official Digital Town and Mr Curtin said the Government should reassess and reset its NBP.

‘The plan in its current form remains in limbo following the beginning of an independent audit into the [its] future viability,’ said Mr Curtin.

He said priority should be given to connecting regional towns so they can fully benefit from e-commerce growth.

Internet Day is a celebration of the internet and its contribution to society and the economy hosted annually by IE Domain Registry.

Local schools got to participate in the Gorey event through workshops and talks in a specially constructed ‘Digital Dome’.
